The Clearwater Threshers looked dead in the water through six innings Aug. 18 at BayCare Ballpark. They walked off winners.

Six unanswered runs across the seventh and eighth innings erased a two-run deficit and gave the Threshers the series opener against the Dunedin Blue Jays, 8-6, kicking off a seven-game homestand with a comeback victory.

Dunedin controlled the early action. Right-hander Jack Nedrow allowed just one earned run over 5⅓ innings in his third outing since returning to the Blue Jays' Single-A club Aug. 9, scattering five hits with no walks and one strikeout. He'd posted a 1.59 ERA across 11⅓ innings in those three outings.

Catcher Giaconino Lasaracina broke a tie with a 105.7 mph opposite-field solo home run in the fifth, his fifth since joining Dunedin. Left fielder Jake Bennett then launched a go-ahead two-run shot in the sixth, his fourth homer in four consecutive games.

Bennett has been scorching. Over a six-game hitting streak, he was batting .409 with four home runs, 12 RBIs and a 1.458 OPS. Ten of his last 13 balls in play left the bat at 105 mph or harder, according to the Dunedin game recap.

None of it mattered.

The Threshers' bats woke up late, stringing together six unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth to flip the scoreboard. The available game report, written from Dunedin's perspective, did not identify which Clearwater hitters delivered the damage.

Shortstop Ryan Cooney added a two-hit night for Dunedin, including a double that extended his hitting streak to six games. Designated hitter Dameury Pena went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, his fourth multi-hit game in six contests.

The Threshers entered the game at 65-47 overall and 25-21 in the second half before picking up the win. They had dropped their final two games of a road series at Fort Myers, including a 9-4 loss Aug. 16, before returning home.

The homestand continues with six more games against Dunedin at BayCare Ballpark.
