St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and Allegiant Air are celebrating 20 years of service with a video contest offering $1,000 in travel vouchers, a Clearwater Beach getaway and a free anniversary party Nov. 16.

The airport, known as PIE, is inviting travelers to submit short videos explaining why they love flying Allegiant. The contest offers 20 chances to win, including 19 daily travel voucher prizes and one grand prize getaway.

Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time Oct. 22 through the airport's anniversary website at flypieday.com.

Videos will be judged on creativity, entertainment value, inspiration and how well they reflect the theme "Why I Love Allegiant."

Twenty chances to win

Beginning Oct. 28, one winner will be selected each day for 19 consecutive days. Each will receive a $175 Allegiant travel voucher.

The grand prize winner, announced Nov. 16, will receive $1,000 in Allegiant travel vouchers, a two-night stay at Hampton Inn & Suites Clearwater Beach, a 3 Daughters Brewing experience and a $75 Andy's Frozen Custard gift card.

The giveaway commemorates Allegiant's first flights from PIE on Nov. 16, 2006, when the airline launched service to Allentown, Pennsylvania; Rockford, Illinois; and Peoria, Illinois.

The partnership began after Allegiant announced 12 nonstop, low-cost destinations in September 2006. The airline drew attention with a limited-time promotion offering $12 fares for 12 hours, according to Airports Council International.

Allegiant expands service at PIE

Two decades later, PIE remains a major operating base for Allegiant, which continues to expand its network of nonstop destinations.

The airline announced in August that it would launch seasonal nonstop service between PIE and Boston Logan International Airport beginning Feb. 13, 2027. The route is scheduled to operate through April 24, 2027.

The expansion comes during a period of change for Allegiant, which completed its $1.5 billion acquisition of Sun Country Airlines on May 13. The carriers continue to operate separately as they work toward integration.

The airport also secured a new five-year operating agreement with Allegiant. Pinellas County commissioners approved the agreement Sept. 10, covering fiscal years 2027 through 2031.

Free anniversary celebration Nov. 16

PIE and Allegiant will host a free public celebration Monday, Nov. 16, from noon to 4 p.m. in the airport's baggage claim area.

The event will feature live entertainment, games, giveaways and anniversary cake. Organizers will announce the grand prize winner during the celebration.

The party is open to travelers and community members.
