A 23-year-old Clearwater man was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 19, after a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputy clocked him driving 107 mph on the Bayside Bridge, 52 mph over the posted speed limit.
Tevone Hall was traveling southbound on the bridge from Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard when he passed an unmarked PCSO patrol car, according to a PCSO arrest affidavit reported by Tampa Bay 28. Radar from the patrol car recorded his speed at 107 mph in a 55 mph zone.
His explanation was brief.
When the deputy pulled Hall over, he told the officer "he was late for work and was aware he was speeding," the affidavit stated.
Hall was charged with dangerous excessive speeding over 100 mph under Florida's law, which took effect July 1, 2025. The statute makes it a criminal offense to drive 50 mph or more over the posted limit, or to drive at 100 mph or more in a manner that threatens others' safety or property or interferes with another vehicle's operation. A first conviction carries up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both.
Unlike a standard speeding ticket, the charge requires a mandatory court appearance and cannot be resolved by paying a fine online.
Hall's driver's license was also suspended at the time of the stop for failing to pay a previous traffic citation, according to the affidavit.
The arrest is the latest in a string of dangerous excessive-speeding cases in Pinellas County. A Tampa man was arrested after being clocked at 113 mph on the Gateway Expressway in Largo, and a St. Petersburg man was arrested July 29 after hitting 104 mph on Bryan Dairy Road in Pinellas Park.
