Clearwater residents and business owners can weigh in on the future look and feel of the Cleveland Street District at a special workshop Tuesday, Aug. 25, with two sessions at the Main Library.

The Clearwater Community Redevelopment Agency is hosting the “Placemaking & Design Workshop” in partnership with AECOM, a global engineering and design firm, according to the city’s event listing. The afternoon session runs from 2-3:30 p.m., and the evening session runs from 5:30-7 p.m. Both take place in the Council Chambers on the first floor of the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave.

The CRA describes the event as a “Special Edition” of its monthly community outreach meeting series, focused on placemaking and design for the district. An RSVP form and a community survey are available on the city’s event page for those who cannot attend in person.

The workshop lands at a busy moment for Cleveland Street. Construction is advancing across the 600 block, where the Cleveland Street Alliance has said six buildings and 12 storefronts moved into construction in April. The alliance says its broader Cleveland Street redevelopment program includes about $200 million in private investment, including historic restoration, construction, entertainment and hospitality projects.

The Clearwater City Council is expected to vote in September on a proposed entertainment center in the district backed by the Cleveland Street Alliance. Developers say the project will feature the world’s largest cinema screen, according to Tampa Bay Times reporting. We covered the proposal Aug. 22.

New restaurants are headed to the corridor, too. Nick Reader, CEO of Tampa Bay hospitality group Tastes Pretty Good, plans to open Rippers and a second Streetlight Taco location on Cleveland Street. Reader called the area an “untapped gem” in an August article by Tampa Bay Beacons.
