Clearwater Beach will host the national kickoff of the Cleanup America Tour on Saturday, Aug. 29, combining a morning volunteer cleanup with a free afternoon festival at Pier 60 Park.
Turning Point USA Communities, the organizing arm of the nonprofit founded by Charlie Kirk in 2012, announced the initiative Aug. 14, describing it as a nationwide effort that brings communities together to serve their neighborhoods through volunteer cleanups. The organization's stated mission focuses on fiscal responsibility, free markets and limited government.
The event is free.
The day runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1 Causeway Blvd., at the base of the Clearwater Beach causeway near the Gulf of Mexico beachfront. Volunteers will fan out for a beach-area cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m., then a community festival takes over from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with food, live music, guest speakers and line dancing lessons. Performer Noah Hunton is confirmed for the Clearwater stop.
Somebody Cares Tampa Bay, a local nonprofit, is partnering with TPUSA Communities on the event. The Tampa Bay group posted on Facebook that it wants to "work together with TPUSA Communities to improve our community and help its homeowners."
Registration is open to the public through the TPUSA Communities events page. Organizers have not specified whether volunteers need to bring their own supplies.
After Clearwater, the tour heads to Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Houston. The next scheduled stop is Sept. 12.
