Joseph Archer torched his former team for 264 receiving yards and three touchdowns on Friday, leading Clearwater High to a 40-19 rout at East Lake to open the 2026 season.

The performance, on eight catches, was the biggest single-game receiving total in Florida for Week 1, Tampa Bay Beacons writer Bob Putnam reported.

Archer played at East Lake last season as the Eagles' leading receiver. On Oct. 17, 2025, he caught five passes for 78 yards in a 48-10 loss to the Tornadoes. Ten months later, he wore Clearwater's jersey.

Sophomore quarterback Jaysean Glenn was just as sharp. Glenn finished 16-of-26 for 358 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions, adding 22 rushing yards and a rushing score. On defense, middle linebacker Jayeon Jackson piled up 15 tackles, tying for the county high.

East Lake's Brian Ford rushed for 141 yards on 20 carries, but the Eagles couldn't keep pace with Clearwater's aerial attack.

Friday, Aug. 28: Dunedin visits at 7 p.m.

The Tornadoes host Dunedin on Friday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. in a matchup the Beacons named its Pinellas County "Game of the Week."

Dunedin opened with a 28-13 win over Northeast on Aug. 20 in first-year head coach LC Coleman's debut. Quarterback Ben Tifer went 8-of-11 for 221 yards and a touchdown, averaging 27.6 yards per completion. Running back Mike Rodriguez scored three times on seven carries, and receiver Deondre Miles added three catches for 66 yards and a score.

The big unknown entering Friday: Dunedin's pass defense. Northeast attempted just five passes against the Falcons, completing two for 45 yards with two interceptions. Coleman's secondary hasn't faced anything resembling the volume Glenn and Archer produced against East Lake, where Clearwater threw 26 times and completed 16.

Dunedin went 4-6 last season and was shut out twice, including 34-0 by Tarpon Springs. A competitive showing against a Clearwater offense scoring 40 points in its opener would mark real progress for Coleman's rebuild.

Clearwater head coach Thor Joz's squad will look to keep the passing game rolling against a secondary seeing its first real aerial test of the year.
