Clearwater Beach hotels and restaurants will have a new pipeline of Northeast visitors starting Feb. 13, 2027, when Allegiant Air launches its first-ever nonstop seasonal route between Boston Logan International Airport and St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport.

The roughly 10-week service will run through April 24, 2027, covering the peak spring break window. Allegiant has not published an introductory fare for the Boston-PIE route, and availability is extremely limited at launch, though additional flights may be added. Tickets are on sale now at Allegiant.com.

Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer, said in the airline's Aug. 17 announcement that the new routes reflect the company's ability to respond to seasonal demand and connect travelers with leisure destinations during peak periods.

The Boston route is one of nine new nonstop routes Allegiant unveiled Monday, Aug. 17, seven of them classified as "hyper-seasonal." Three originate in Boston, with the others heading to Orlando Sanford and Punta Gorda.

Allegiant is the dominant carrier at PIE, where it has operated for 20 years. The airport, located at 14700 Terminal Blvd. in Clearwater, is also in the early stages of a $145 million modernization that includes an elevated terminal, new security checkpoint and a 2,000-space parking garage, with construction expected to begin in early 2027.

The reliance on a single airline has drawn scrutiny. Pinellas County Commissioner Kathleen Peters said on Aug. 12, during a county commission work session on the modernization plan, that she remains frustrated by the lack of carrier diversity. "I'm frustrated that eight years later, all our eggs are in one basket still," Peters said, according to Tampa Bay Beacons reporting. She questioned why the airport has not attracted competitors such as Frontier or Southwest.

The new Boston connection adds a direct link to one of the country's largest metro areas during the months when Clearwater Beach tourism peaks. Pinellas County collected about $92 million in bed-tax revenue in the most recent fiscal year, according to Visit St. Pete-Clearwater, and domestic routes like this one feed that pipeline at a time when visits from some international markets have declined.

Construction on PIE's terminal overhaul is expected to overlap with the route's launch in early 2027. Airport director Mark Sprague has called Allegiant "a great partner in growing leisure air service in the Tampa Bay market," a characterization he made in a February 2026 press release announcing separate new routes.
