Clearwater homeowners can save an average of $7,475 on rooftop solar installation by joining the city's group-buying program before enrollment closes Sept. 2.

The Switch Together program, a partnership between the City of Clearwater and the nonprofit Solar United Neighbors, pools residential buyers to negotiate lower prices from vetted installers. The current round's average savings work out to about 24% below the market rate, according to the program.

The program is free to join. There is no obligation to buy, and participants receive a personalized solar recommendation along with discounted pricing on battery storage systems and electric-vehicle chargers, according to a city bulletin promoting the enrollment round.

Switch Together reports that 16,604 households have accepted an offer through the program to date, according to Tampa Bay Beacons.

The program also offers solar education through online resources and in-person events. Residents can register at tinyurl.com/36rd4utz.

Police ramp up traffic enforcement on state roads

Separately, the Clearwater Police Department is increasing patrols on state roads with high crash rates under a partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation.

The enhanced enforcement campaign runs through March 31, 2027, and targets intersection violations, DUI, speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, lane departure, work zone violations and move-over violations.

The department said on Facebook that officers will conduct additional traffic enforcement aimed at reducing crashes and protecting everyone on Clearwater's roadways. The post drew 89,000 views and 912 reactions.

The specific state roads targeted have not been identified publicly.
