Clearwater High's football program enters the 2026 season as the overwhelming favorite to win District 4A-10, with preseason projections giving the Tornadoes an 82.4% probability of claiming the district championship and a near-lock on a playoff berth.

No other team comes close.

The Florida Power Rankings Index, published Aug. 5 by FloridaHSFootball.com, projects Clearwater to finish 8-2 in the regular season with a 96.3% playoff probability and a 3.2% chance of winning the Class 4A state title. No other team in the six-school district reaches even 10% in district championship odds.

The model, authored by Joshua Wilson, builds its projection on Clearwater's 8-4 campaign in 2025, which ended with a regional semifinal appearance. The Tornadoes earned the No. 3 seed in Region 3 last fall and hosted Blake of Tampa in the regional quarterfinals on Nov. 14, 2025, according to High School Football America's playoff bracket.

Head Coach Thor Joz's program added to its offseason momentum on July 22 when the team's official account announced the hiring of Coach Hutchinson.

Four Clearwater players committed to Division I programs before the 2025 season: Jaylen White to UNC Charlotte, S. Roseborough to North Carolina A&T, Kentrail McRae to Pittsburgh and a fourth player to Delaware. Five Tornadoes earned FACA 1st Team All-State honors during the 2025 campaign.

Pinellas Park Leads a Distant Second Tier Behind Clearwater

Behind Clearwater, the projections show a competitive but distant second tier:

• Pinellas Park (Largo): 6-4 projected record, 8.4% district title probability, 38.0% playoff probability
• Osceola (Seminole): 6-4, 4.5% district title, 28.7% playoff
• St. Petersburg: 5-5, 3.5% district title, 25.9% playoff
• Northeast (St. Petersburg): 4-6, 1.2% district title, 16.2% playoff
• Hollins (St. Petersburg): 1-9, 0.0% district title, 3.2% playoff

Pinellas Park's projection represents a rebound from a 5-6 finish in 2025, while Osceola's 6-4 mark tracks close to its 7-4 record and regional quarterfinal appearance last year. St. Petersburg's projected return to .500 would be a significant turnaround from a 2-7 season.

Winning the district in Class 4A secures an automatic FHSAA playoff berth, with remaining spots filled through an at-large process. The FPRI is an independent preseason model; official playoff seeding uses MaxPreps rankings.

Regular Season Kicks Off Aug. 21; Playoffs Run Into December

The FHSAA football calendar sets the first regular-season games for Friday, Aug. 21. District play wraps up Oct. 23, with regional quarterfinals beginning Nov. 13 and state semifinals scheduled for Dec. 4.

Clearwater's 82.4% district probability is the strongest in 4A-10 by a wide margin, but the FPRI model notes that projections will shift as actual results replace preseason expectations.
