Dunedin Blue Jays to wear weather radar jerseys inspired by rain-filled 2025 season

The Dunedin Blue Jays will debut a special "rain delay jersey" on Saturday, July 18, turning one of the rainiest seasons in franchise history into a lighthearted promotion.

The Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, located about 10 minutes north of Clearwater along U.S. 19, experienced 24 weather delays, six postponements and 10 canceled games during the 2025 season.

General Manager Matt Woak told Tampa Bay 28 the idea came from a brainstorming session about how to make the best of a frustrating year.

"We can't beat the weather, might as well wear it," Woak said.

Uniform pays tribute to Tampa Bay's summer storms

The jersey features a map of the Tampa Bay area overlaid with colorful weather radar imagery designed to resemble a television weather forecast.

Woak said last season's persistent storms tested the grounds crew, which sometimes had to deploy and remove the tarp three or four times in a single day as thunderstorms arrived earlier than the area's typical summer weather pattern.

He said the organization decided to embrace the experience rather than dwell on the number of games interrupted by lightning and heavy rain.

Without finding humor in the situation, Woak told the station, his staff would "go insane" after a season defined by unpredictable weather.

Following Saturday's game, the jerseys will be auctioned to fans at TD Ballpark, 373 Douglas Ave., Dunedin.

Clearwater Threshers in town for rivalry series

The promotion also carries local interest for Clearwater baseball fans.

The Clearwater Threshers, the Single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, are scheduled to begin a series at TD Ballpark on Friday, July 17. The teams will still be playing when the Blue Jays unveil the weather-themed uniforms the following evening.

The Threshers entered the series with a 50-36 record after being swept in a doubleheader by the Tampa Tarpons on Saturday, July 11.

Upcoming games and jersey auction

The Clearwater Threshers open their series against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday, July 17, at TD Ballpark.

The Blue Jays will debut their rain delay jerseys during Saturday's game, with the game-worn uniforms auctioned to fans following the final out.
