Daniel Mynsberge, a retired firefighter and EMT, is running for Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue District Seat 2 in the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election. The nonpartisan race is for the rest of an unexpired term on the fire district board.

Mynsberge faces one opponent, Elizabeth McKenna, also running as nonpartisan. Both candidates are certified for the ballot, according to BallotReady election data. Mynsberge qualified for the race during the June 8–12 qualifying period, as confirmed by Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Julie Marcus, according to Tampa Bay Beacons.

In a September 2019 Tampa Bay Times article about a fire district board appointment, Mynsberge said he wanted to serve because of his career in firefighting. "So it's near and dear to my heart. I'd like to be of service to Indian Rocks … This is now my home and I would like to help out," Mynsberge said at the time.

Mynsberge, a resident of Indian Rocks Beach since 2012, said he had been vacationing in the area since 1994 before making it his permanent home. His registered address is on Harbor Drive North in Indian Rocks Beach, according to Pinellas County Voter Focus campaign finance records.

Experience and public service

Mynsberge began his firefighting career in 1978 with the City of Flint, Michigan Fire Department, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Over the course of his career there, he held the positions of firefighter/EMT, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and battalion chief before leaving the department in 2002.

After retiring from the fire service, Mynsberge shifted to nonprofit work. He served as a facilities and logistics manager at the American Red Cross from 2005 to 2012, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
