The 8,000-square-foot building that sat empty on U.S. Highway 19 North after WingHouse closed has a new tenant serving sushi, hibachi and ramen to roughly 200 diners at a time.

Sushi Yama opened Saturday, July 18, at 7790 U.S. Highway 19 North in Pinellas Park, according to St. Pete Rising, which first reported the opening on Tuesday, July 22. The independently owned Japanese restaurant fills a visible vacancy on the US-19 corridor near Bojangles and bb.q Chicken.

An all-you-can-eat menu without the buffet line

Despite the all-you-can-eat label, Sushi Yama doesn't operate like a traditional buffet. Guests order from a menu, and every dish is prepared fresh and delivered to the table. The menu spans sushi rolls, sashimi, hand rolls, soups, salads, hibachi entrees, teriyaki, fried rice, yaki udon, tempura and katsu. An à la carte menu is also available for diners who prefer to order individual plates.

Signature specialty rolls include the deep-fried Little Tokyo, stuffed with krab (imitation crab), cooked shrimp, avocado and cream cheese, then topped with eel sauce, mayo and fried onions. The Snow White roll features shrimp tempura, snow crab and eel sauce. Customizable sushi boats run $45.95 to $59.95 and come loaded with specialty rolls, nigiri and sashimi.

What dinner and lunch will cost you

All-you-can-eat dinner costs $35.95 per adult, with discounted pricing for children. Lunch runs $22.95 per adult Monday through Friday. The drink menu includes beer, wine, sake and cocktails.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

No relation to Tampa's Sushi Yama

Several Florida restaurants operate under the Sushi Yama name in Orlando, West Palm Beach and Tampa. A manager at the Pinellas Park location told St. Pete Rising the restaurant is not affiliated with the Tampa Sushi Yama at 10017 E. Adamo Drive, despite the shared name and similar concept.

The space underwent about a year and a half of renovations before opening day, according to St. Pete Rising. The restaurant's Facebook page confirmed a soft opening on Saturday, July 18, and its online ordering system at sushiyama7790.kwickmenu.com is accepting orders.

Sushi Yama is at 7790 U.S. Highway 19 North, Pinellas Park, FL 34665.
